Emergency Call For Funding A Big Mountain Residents Court Case


On March 27, 2002 Tom Bedoni was arrested at his home on Big Mountain, AZ. Tom only has until April 11th to pay for a retainers fee to his lawyer. A retainer fee of $750.00 and a total of $2,000.00 is needed for this case. There is no other assistance available. Harassment has continually escalated since Big Mountain resident Arrick Crittenden’s conviction on March 26, 2002. The level of harassment has gotten so bad that people are afraid to engage in their daily routine. Read more






Arrick Crittenden given a guilty verdict; a repeal of the case is in order


Arrick Crittenden who was arrested at his homesite on Big Mountain and charged with criminal trespassing was convicted of trespass in Hopi Court Monday March 26th, 2002. Several of lawyers, Jeffrey Porturica who represented ARC and Joe Washington, Bob Malone, and Larry Hildes, along with friends and relatives were present. Read more

POLACCA – In the opening day of testimony, the Hopi tribal prosecution painted a picture for the jury of a ring of police vehicles and signs around the core of Camp Anna Mae.

And a defense lawyer from California hammered hard at the seven witnesses to show defendent Arrick Crettenden was not properly warned that he would be considered a criminal trespasser, with no one able to confirm the young photographer actually saw the warnings. Read more

WINDOW ROCK – President Kelsey Begaye and Navajo Nation Council Speaker Ed T. Begay have issued brief reaction statements about the “Big Mountain 5.”

Hopi police arrested the five – Ruth Benally, Pauline Whitesinger, Louise Benally, Elvira Horseherder and Joella Ashkie – at Hopi Tribe headquarters in Kykotsmovi on July 11 on trespass charge in connection with a Lakota (Sioux) Sun Dance at Camp Anna Mae in Hopi Partitioned Land Range Unit 262.
